“Surprise’s Pavement Preservation Program schedule, maps released online

SURPRISE – The City of Surprise Public Works Department will begin its annual Pavement Preservation Program (PPP) March 23.

This annual program identifies city streets to receive appropriate applications to lengthen the life of the street pavement. The approved budgeted amount for the FY15 PPP is $2 million.

The scheduled work is to be performed on 263 lane miles of city streets through May 30.

Residents living in areas targeted for treatment will receive 48 hour notice before the work begins via a door hanger. Contact information for residents requiring special assistance during the street treatments will be provided on the door hangers.

The street treatments include Micro Surfacing, Slurry Seal, Chip Seal, Mill & Overlay, and Tire Rubber Modified Surface Seal (TRMSS).

The first treatment, known as Micro-Surfacing, which is a topical preservation treatment, will be placed on a section of Greenway Road.

The Slurry Seal treatment, a typical preservation treatment made from emulsified asphalt and fine aggregate, will be placed in several neighborhoods, including West Point, Litchfield Manor & Countryside. Also, several collector streets will be Slurry Sealed.

The Chip Seal treatment will be placed on Peakview Road, between 155th Avenue and 163rd Avenue. Also receiving this treatment is Deer Valley Road, between Grand Avenue and the Northwest Regional Landfill.

The Mill and Overlay involves the milling down of one inch of existing pavement and overlaying with one new inch of fresh rubberized asphalt. Goldwater Ridge between Sunrise and Clearwater will receive this treatment.

The TRMSS Seal Coat application will be placed in various subdivisions, including Sun City Grand, Desert Oasis, Litchfield Manor, Countryside, West Point, Kingwoods Parke and Roseview.

Residents can expect street restrictions during the work; however, there will not be any complete street closures.
